To enhance the understanding of responsible internationalisation, STINT’s board of directors has decided to allocate funds to the establishment of two research groups on responsible internationalisation at the University of Gothenburg and Lund University.
International cooperation is decisive in ensuring quality higher education and research. However, it is important that international collaborations are conducted responsibly. International relations are more complex than ever before and we need to be even more aware of how they are managed.
At present there is good knowledge of responsible internationalisation in Swedish academia and actors have in various ways adapted to the new conditions for international collaborations. It is important not to stop here. We need more knowledge and greater exchange of experience, as was found in the Swedish Council for Higher Education’s interim report on responsible internationalisation (UHR report 2024:1; March 2024). Responsible internationalisation raises many difficult questions and more research is needed in this area.
To enhance the understanding of responsible internationalisation in a Swedish context, contribute to greater exchange of experience in the sector, and make an impact at national level through systemic effects, STINT grants funding for the establishment of the following two research groups on responsible internationalisation at Swedish higher education institutions:
Dr Christer Ljungwall, University of Gothenburg, Responsible internationalisation of research in an increasingly hostile international environment
Dr Tommy Shih, Lund University, Developing state-of-the-art knowledge on responsible internationalisation
